More Haste Less Speed

More Haste Less Speed

A case we learned to think before action.

To keep a workshop running effectively, we use many time thinking how to make it faster and easier. And this sometimes not leading us to achieve our goal. High efficiency means less cost and higher performance. Recently we learned “more haste less speed,” from our failures.

This part is actually not a difficult one, from the drawing until we made the finished part, it looks just as normal as usual. It is made of Iron Casting FCD50. We tried to machined its required measurements at once. We failed because we didn’t consider the total deformation zone after couple machining procedures.
It was nice that our customer is kind and patient and we got a second chance. This time we looked through its material properties consulted with a senior master for advices. Also we made couple sets of fixtures to hold it properly. The best lesson we learned is to preserve extra material for finish machining.
Few days later, we got a call from customer, OH YEAH, WE MADE IT! It also works in our lives, doesn’t? #zen
